About Phillipa

Hi, I'm Phillipa.

My creative journey began with silversmithing and jewellery making at Birmingham University.

I started felting as a hobby and began with making quirky felted bags and brooches.

My work now revolves around designing and making soft sculpture birds and creatures using ethically sourced materials and reclaimed textiles to create a mix of artifice and realism.

I use a range of techniques including wood carving, needle felting, stitching and textile manipulation with sustainably resourced high quality materials such as silk and merino wool.

Birds have always been a personal favourite of mine for their beautiful and intricate details. The precision of tiny stitches and attention to detail are inspired by nature and create the illusion of movement.

The design of each bird takes shape during the make. I might have an idea of the sort of thing I'm after but 9 times out of 10 the bird does it's own thing and

it's personality emerges organically.

Thank you for visiting my shop!
